Guildford Book Festival Competition

Katie Allen writes 'The Guildford Book Festival has launched a short story writing competition, with the winning entry to be turned into an app.

Sponsored by writers' website Bookwright, the competition is based around the theme of inspiring readers to "live their lives to the full". The 7,000 word limit is set so the story can be read in full on a return train journey between Guildford and Waterloo train stations.

"It has been terrific to watch this event grow in popularity and it is an important literary landmark in our local events calendar." said Tom Evans, founder of he Bookwright. "I am really excited about the potential for the creativity this competition will encourage."

The winner's story will be converted into a multimedia iPhone app, which will be available to download from January 2011. The author will also win an e-publishing contract with Commutabooks, the e-publishing imprint of Bookwright, worth more than £2,000.

This year's Festival will take place between 14th and 23rd October.
